Our DFEND trainers had been conducting the last few sessions without me because of my school classes. As I wore my karate uniform, getting ready for class, a flood of memories washed over me. I remembered the countless hours I spent as a little girl in karate classes, learning discipline, focus, and resilience. But today, I stood on the other side. Not as the student, but as someone guiding, teaching, and shaping these young girls.
After today’s session, I shared my journey on DFEND. I wanted them to know that self-defense is not just about punches, kicks, or blocks. It is about standing tall, about knowing you have the power to protect yourself and others.
Walking out today, I saw stronger faces. Faces that looked happy. And yes, we chatted a lot after the class, about everything from favourite foods to subjects, and ended up taking tons of pictures together.
